Abstract

In arXiv:1812.00170 and arXiv:1908.04365, Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko introduced qq-rational numbers [x]q[x]_q, rational functions specializing to xx at q=1q=1, and their extension to qq-real numbers, Laurent series agreeing with [x]q[x]_q for rational xx. It was conjectured in arXiv:2102.00891 that for every real x>1x>1, [x]q[x]_q has positive radius of convergence, with optimal common radius R∗=(3−5)/2R_*=(3-\sqrt{5})/2, attained at the golden ratio. We prove that [x]q[x]_q converges to a nonvanishing holomorphic function for every real x>1x>1 and ∣q∣<3−22|q|<3-2\sqrt{2}. The proof gives an expansion of 1/[x]q1/[x]_q as a qq-adically convergent series of rational functions, converging absolutely and locally uniformly on an explicit region. It also defines a positive analytic function for q∈(−R∗,1)q\in(-R_*,1). Using arXiv:2405.15970, we further obtain convergence for ∣q∣<2−3|q|<2-\sqrt{3}. We compute [x]q[x]_q explicitly for some transcendental xx, including cotan(1){\rm cotan}(1) and ee. We also establish sharp inequalities for numerators and denominators of qq-rationals when ∣q∣=1|q|=1 and determine the closure of the set of [x]q[x]_q when such qq is not a root of unity. Next, we show that coefficientwise reduction modulo every m≥2m\ge2 is injective on the Cantor line (the extended real line with doubled up rationals and the Cantor set topology); for m=2m=2, it identifies the Cantor line with P1(F2((q)))\mathbb P^1(\mathbb F_2((q))). We describe the inverse map, extend rationality results modulo every prime, characterize quadratic series over F2(q)\mathbb F_2(q) corresponding to quadratic irrationals, derive criteria for eventual parity of coefficients, and compute the real numbers corresponding to 1+qn1+q^n. Finally, we propose a definition of qq-complex number [τ]q[τ]_q, a meromorphic function in τ∈C+τ\in\mathbb C_+ expressed via hypergeometric functions evaluated at modular functions of ττ.

On qq-real and qq-complex numbers

A statement-restricted proof-dependence graph for arXiv:2508.08440v2. It covers the paper's main analytic continuation and convergence theorems, exact $q$-Bessel formulas, monotonicity and almost-everywhere singularity, the unit-circle Jones/Burau bounds, the mod-$m$ classification results, and the hypergeometric construction of $q$-complex numbers. Expansion follows only claims whose truth can affect one of those marked results and stops at published books. Historical citations, comparisons, conjectures, and alternate routes are documented separately as non-edges.

The marked convergence, special-value, real-axis, unit-circle, modular-reduction, and conditional q-complex results are correctly stated in the exact current version. No counterexample was found. Independent coefficient, finite-continuant, modular-decoder, and hypergeometric-equation checks agree with the paper. One proof-critical citation has a stale locator and one standard Temperley-Lieb bridge is under-cited, but neither changes a mathematical statement.

The universal convergence and nonvanishing regions are correct

PDF pages 4 and 14-20 · statements and proofs of Theorems 1.1-1.2 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

The reciprocal-continuant expansion is normally convergent on the stated region, and its simultaneous control with the inverse expansion excludes zeros. The disk of radius 3−223-2\sqrt{2} is contained in that region. For Theorem 1.2, the imported root annulus and the paper's sharp minimization over monic constant-one polynomials give the lower bound with s=(R−r)(R−1−r)=1−3r+r2s=(R-r)(R^{-1}-r)=1-3r+r^2. The required inequality r<sr<s is exactly r<2−3r<2-\sqrt{3}. The EGMS locator is stale in the current source version but the imported result itself is unchanged.

PDF pages 7-13 · Lemma 3.1, Proposition 3.2, Theorem 3.5, and Corollary 3.6 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

The cited q-Lommel continued fraction specializes to the displayed Bessel ratios and cotangent examples. The Euler block contraction gives the stated second-order q-difference recurrence, whose normalized solution is the displayed basic hypergeometric series. Independently expanding Theorem 3.5 reproduces every printed coefficient of [e]q[e]_q from q0q^0 through q30q^{30}; a separate truncated product of the regular q-continued-fraction matrices agrees through q19q^{19}.

The sign-pairing estimates keep the reciprocal series positive for −R∗<q<1-R_*<q<1, and their compact-uniform strengthening supplies the claimed complex neighborhood and holomorphic continuation. The continued-fraction recursion preserves strict monotonicity for 0<q<10<q<1. For almost every real input, Ito's subexponential negative-continuant approximation is dominated by the focal exponential q-continuant error, yielding derivative zero for both one-sided versions as claimed.

The unit-circle inequalities and closure dichotomy are correct

PDF pages 39-44 · Theorem 7.1 and Propositions 7.3-7.4 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

On the arc ∣1−q∣≥1|1-q|\geq1, the rank-two Temperley-Lieb form is positive semidefinite and the normalized four-plat Jones polynomial is a matrix coefficient of a unitary braid action, giving the required bound. The endpoint equality and the centered Mobius reachability recurrence then establish the three closure regimes. As a stress test, 19,530 finite continuants with digits 2 through 6 and lengths at most 6 were evaluated at eight unit-circle sample angles; all stated inequalities and endpoint equalities held.

The modular decoder and its rationality consequences are correct

PDF pages 45-48 · Section 8, results 8.1-8.7 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

Every nonterminal tail has unit constant term, so the first coefficient that differs from 1 recovers the next negative-continued-fraction digit over every modulus; iteration proves injectivity. Over F2\mathbb F_2, every admissible series decodes, giving the asserted homeomorphism. Matrix periodicity gives the rational and quadratic criteria. Independently, the decoder for 1+qn1+q^n was run for 3≤n≤93\leq n\leq9 through two full periods and reproduced both the claimed code and its closed-form classical value.

The q-complex theorem is correctly conditional and the downstream conclusions follow

PDF pages 48-58 · Section 9, with the main statement on page 52 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

The theorem explicitly assumes modular equivariance, cusp normalization, and local-diffeomorphism behavior; it does not claim unconditional existence or uniqueness. Those hypotheses restrict the Schwarzian equation to the displayed three-singularity Fuchsian equation, and its local exponent differences give c=−s2c=-s^2. Direct substitution independently verifies the hypergeometric pullback used in the two closed formulas. The Wronskian and unramified modular lambda map verify the local-diffeomorphism condition, after which the asymptotic, simple-pole, and boundary-value statements follow from the periodic cusp factor and modular action.

The marked proofs close as written when their explicitly cited inputs are supplied, and no incorrect or incomplete proof was found. The longest arguments were checked at their recurrence, exponent, endpoint, and normalization transitions. The four independent computations below reproduced the formulas they test. Proposition 7.3 needs a fuller citation for one standard state-space identification, but that identification is valid and therefore creates a source-completeness issue rather than an unverified proof.

Both convergence mechanisms close uniformly

PDF pages 14-20 · reciprocal expansion, continuant bounds, and root-annulus argument · arXiv:2508.08440v2

For Theorem 1.1, the induction behind the uniform continuant lower bound is compatible with the defining recurrence, and the geometric majorant is locally uniform. For Theorem 1.2, the parity-sensitive minimum for a monic constant-one polynomial with roots in the annulus is attained by the displayed boundary-root configurations. Combining consecutive continuant degrees in the contradiction argument yields the claimed little-o estimate, and the final telescoping series has a ratio strictly below 1.

PDF pages 10-13 · block matrices, gauges, recurrence, and basic hypergeometric solution · arXiv:2508.08440v2

Direct multiplication verifies both parity-dependent block identities. Removing the scalar gauge gives the common recurrence, and coefficient comparison gives a unique normalized formal solution. The basic hypergeometric coefficients satisfy that recurrence term by term. The independent series and finite-matrix expansions agree to orders q30q^{30} and q19q^{19} respectively, including the alternating coefficients printed after the theorem.

The unitary and digit-decoding arguments cover their endpoints

PDF pages 39-48 · Sections 7-8 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

The Jones estimate extends from the positive-definite interior to the two semidefinite endpoints by continuity. Density of positive powers handles non-roots of unity, while the separate root-of-unity calculation gives the exact endpoint behavior. In Section 8, the decoder distinguishes termination before dividing by a tail, so it remains valid over composite coefficient rings; translation then extends it from the positive Cantor ray to the full Cantor line. Compactness supplies the stated topological conclusions.

The Schwarzian and hypergeometric normalization determine the conditional solution

PDF pages 48-53 · deformed Picard-Fuchs equation and uniqueness argument · arXiv:2508.08440v2

The orbifold points force the two finite principal parts of the Schwarzian potential, while the cusp monodromy fixes the remaining parameter. Pullback to the modular lambda line gives the stated Gauss parameters. The two cusp connection coefficients determine the zero and pole of the residual fractional transformation; inversion and the continuous normalization at q=1q=1 determine its scalar. A symbolic substitution into the differential equation independently confirms the gauge and all three exponent differences.

04Sources4 reported findingsSuspected incomplete or incorrect source use

The marked q-Lommel, q-rational, Burau-root, metric approximation, and modular-function inputs are supported by exact sources or explicit version fallbacks. Two source-use defects remain. The focal paper repeatedly names EGMS Corollary 6.4, which was the correct locator in version 2 but is Corollary 6.5 in the current accepted version 3. More substantively, the paragraph introducing Proposition 7.3 cites Morier-Genoud-Ovsienko, Jones, and Kauffman, and the proof cites Squier, but none of those citations is given a precise locator that pins the exact rank-two Temperley-Lieb state space, plat vector, matrix-coefficient identity, and loop normalization used together. A standard book is identified as a canonical terminal reference for that convention chain, so the proof verdict remains correct, but the source trail is incomplete for an in-depth audit.

The q-Lommel continued fraction exactly supports Lemma 3.1

PDF pages 7-8 · Lemma 3.1 and Proposition 3.2 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

Kim and Stanton's exact current arXiv version gives the continued fraction in Equation (6.4), with the same q-shifts and normalization used in the focal lemma. Their preceding q-Lommel recurrence independently derives it. This accessible exact source is sufficient even though the older Ismail article cited first was not needed to close the graph.

The exact IMRN version of Morier-Genoud-Ovsienko-Veselov gives the continuant-root and Burau-nonfaithfulness equivalence used by the focal proof. EGMS proves the strengthened annulus. In EGMS version 2 that conclusion was Corollary 6.4, exactly as the focal manuscript says; in the current accepted version 3 an inserted lemma renumbered the unchanged result to Corollary 6.5. The bibliography gives only the arXiv identifier, so a reader following the current version encounters a wrong locator even though the theorem content remains applicable.

The Jones matrix-coefficient step is valid but its normalization trail is under-cited

PDF page 40 · proof of Proposition 7.3 · arXiv:2508.08440v2

Morier-Genoud-Ovsienko Appendix A supports the normalized Jones/q-rational identity, the paragraph immediately before Proposition 7.3 cites Jones and Kauffman's foundational state-model papers, and Squier's exact AMS article supplies an invariant Hermitian form for the reduced Burau representation. What remains under-localized is the precise convention chain identifying the rank-two Temperley-Lieb state space and two-cup plat vector with Jx=⟨v,ρ(βx)v⟩J_x=\langle v,\rho(\beta_x)v\rangle and ∥v∥2=d2\lVert v\rVert^2=d^2. These are standard consequences of Temperley-Lieb recoupling and close the Cauchy-Schwarz argument with the focal normalization, but the exact source location should be supplied. Kauffman-Lins is a canonical terminal reference for those conventions.

The exact Forum of Mathematics, Sigma version supports q-rational positivity, monotonicity, matrix formulas, and the rational-knot Jones relation. Squier's exact version of record supports the invariant Burau form. Ito's exact journal PDF was inaccessible, but arXiv:2005.04371v1 contains the precise subexponential approximation theorem used to prove almost-everywhere vanishing derivative. Whittaker-Watson is used only for standard hypergeometric and modular-function facts, and the focal paper derives its deformed equation and normalization explicitly.

Authenticate with ORCID, then require an exact arXiv match

MathAudit should accept the identity only when ORCID OAuth authenticates the claimant's iD and this exact arXiv paper appears in arXiv's public authority feed for that iD. A matching name alone is not sufficient.

ORCID OAuth and arXiv authority-record lookup are not connected in this local prototype.

Email fallback for papers without a linked ORCID

A production fallback could send a one-time link only when the submitted address matches an independently maintained author-contact allowlist for this paper. MathAudit must return the same message for every address so the form cannot reveal which contacts are on that list.

This demonstration does not send, store, or compare the address.

Structured response preview
